Waterproofing materials do not perform independently of the environment around them.

Temperature, humidity, wind, rain and substrate temperature can all influence how a system is applied and how it cures.

Typical risks include:

  • Applying onto a surface that is too cold
  • Applying in excessive heat
  • High relative humidity
  • Condensation or dew forming on the substrate
  • Rain arriving before the system is rain-resistant
  • Strong wind affecting application or evaporation
  • Applying onto a surface hotter or colder than the surrounding air
  • Ignoring the manufacturer’s permitted application range

A dry-looking substrate can still be unsafe.

One of the biggest hidden risks is condensation.

A substrate can appear completely dry while still being too close to the dew point for safe application.

That thin layer of moisture may be almost invisible.
