Technical clarity across the complete roof envelope.

This is not a product catalogue. It is a growing library of practical guidance to help designers, contractors and building owners make informed decisions—from substrate to termination.

01

Liquid Waterproofing

Winkler, Res-Tec and Scott Bader roof, balcony and below-ground systems, reinforced GRP, repairs and specialist coatings—selected around substrate, moisture, pressure and detailing.

02

Flat Roofing

Current DANOSA, Ravago and MIDA systems plus the historical Börner and TECHNONICOL archives—organised by build-up, application route, substrate risk and detailing.

03

Pitched Roofing

Eurovent control layers, current MIDA shingles and historical SHINGLAS experience—connecting the covering, underlay, airtightness and critical interfaces.

04

Roof Refurbishment

Survey-led strategies that address the cause of failure—not simply the visible leak.

05

Inspections & Surveys

Evidence-based condition assessment, defect diagnosis and practical reporting.

06

Specification Support

System selection, build-up review and detail coordination from design to installation.

07

Building Performance

Project-specific DANOSA acoustic systems for impact, airborne and low-frequency noise across floors, walls, ceilings and building services.

Ideas built for the real world.

Seven foundation articles connect material behaviour, preparation, detailing and application conditions.

WATERPROOFING BASICS · PART 2

The substrate decides the performance

Why assessment, preparation and compatibility below the system determine what happens above it.

Read Part 2

WATERPROOFING BASICS · PART 3

Trapped moisture can destroy a system from inside

Understanding substrate moisture, vapour movement and why a dry-looking surface can still carry serious risk.

Read Part 3

WATERPROOFING BASICS · PART 4

Why upstands matter more than the flat area

Why changes in direction, terminations and vertical details often determine whether the whole roof succeeds.

Read Part 4

WATERPROOFING BASICS · PART 5

Why details decide the life of the roof

How corners, outlets, penetrations and terminations can determine the performance of the entire system.

Read Part 5

WATERPROOFING BASICS · PART 6

Why curing time cannot be rushed

Why surface dry is not the same as fully cured—and why the next stage must wait until the system is ready.

Read Part 6

WATERPROOFING BASICS · PART 7

Why application conditions matter

How temperature, humidity, wind, rain and dew point can compromise even the correct waterproofing product.

Perspective
Product · Specification · Site

I am a roofing and waterproofing technical specialist based in Ireland. My wider construction background extends back to 2007, with my work focused specifically on roofing, waterproofing and building-envelope systems since 2019.

In my current role as Technical Sales Manager — Roofing & Waterproofing, I work between manufacturers, architects, quantity surveyors, contractors, builders merchants and installation teams across Ireland and Northern Ireland.

My experience covers liquid-applied waterproofing, torch-applied and self-adhesive membranes, PVC, EPDM, GRP, insulation, airtightness, breathable pitched-roof underlays and roof ventilation systems.

THE WORKING PRINCIPLE

The value is not simply in knowing individual products. It is in understanding how substrate condition, moisture, compatibility, detailing, workmanship and application conditions affect the complete system.

PRACTICAL FOCUS

01System selection & build-up reviews
02Roof inspections & defect discussions
03Installer training & technical support
04Documentation & pre-warranty inspections
